The Lazarus album was so great mostly because it was a group of songwriters who could write about ordinary life and love, not unlike James Ward, and do it out of the context of their faith. That’s probably why the album was in the used record shop.
The best song on the album, for Jenny and I is "Warmth of Your Eyes." Sioux Center Iowa is a great small town to fall in love and that’s what I did and I can always tie being in love to this song and to the love of my life Jenny and to corn fields, Doc’s Café, Bear Park, Oak Grove, the library, and those crazy feelings.
I studied for a semester at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, and in another used record shop there I found about five copies of Lazarus for $1.00 each and I bought them all and gave them away, and there are some folks I know who also came to love this music.
Time after time
I feel the warmth of your eyes
And I see you’ve laid down your disguise
And you're free
To Be Just what you are to me
And it's time after all the years we played
Our endless game of charades
Don't you lie
It's the best time of your life
And when we're living in the holy church of Jesus
I can look into your eyes
And you in mine we and we’ll know
And maybe show
He didn't live in vain
Time after time
I found the warmth of your eyes
I've come to realize
Just how to love you
It's the best time of my life
Warmth of Your Eyes
