Over the last several months, as the war in Ukraine continues it horrible trajectory of destruction and death, I find myself caught from time to time in a labyrinth of YouTube videos: cell phone images of the HIMAR missiles destroying Russian tanks, drone strikes, bombed out cities that could be our cities. When I forget for a few days I feel the shame of being a world away. Is it possible to be a world away? We feel the impact of war in our grocery and gas bills while on the ground the real toll is paid. We have tried in small ways to symbolically stand in solidarity. A bumper crop of sunflowers and a flag on the fence. The flag on the fence has led to a new friendship with Mike and Olya and a small window into the real suffering of this terrible war, May it come to an end.
