Rather asked yesterday, “Have we moved into a post-truth political era, where the truths don’t matter, the facts don’t matter?” He suggested that to call it a Post-Truth Era might be a stretch at this point but he was calling for journalists to find new ways to reach an audience that felt disenfranchised from the traditional media and somewhat beyond its reach at this point. He also called for them to screw on their courage for the challenge ahead with a president in office who has little or no respect for the fourth estate and in fact used bullying tactics during the campaign that might well cause them to shrink back from the pursuit of truth.
It is all a bit disconcerting to think that we might be living in a vastly altered reality which does call for new found courage even as we take on new words.
