This summer we did a little road trip through Southern Alberta and Saskatchewan, to Regina and back. There is nothing quite like the big skies and building thunderheads, the yellow canola fields and the looming Rockies. I love that drive. But the destination, Regina, was most rewarding. Many years ago when our boys were just little we had a high school student staying with us for several years and we went to visit her in Regina. M was part of the family. She has come through some big struggles in her life and it was such a joy to see her as the mom of three beautiful adopted children. She and K adopted these three all at once about a year ago, an instant family of five, and she is a remarkable and courageous mother. Jenny and I talked about it all the way home. It was so good to see how well she has done over these many years and we feel honored to be part of that story. She is one of our ordinary heroes.

Canola fields in bloom are one of my favourite sights on the prairies and they excite me just as much now as years ago. Next time you're headed this way, it would be a pleasure to have a visit!
