We probably say it even when it is not true because so much of our value as human beings is tied up in being busy, in doing. Not only are we adults busy but we have already plagued our children with this same dis-ease. Children seldom have time to just play because we have them enrolled in a multitude of activities for fear they will miss out or even worse, be bored.
In many Arabic speaking places and cultures instead of asking how someone is doing you ask Kayf haal-ik? The question really is, how is your soul or your heart? Not something you can answer with a quick, “O, I’m so busy.” I like that question. But it requires a slowing down to a more human pace where the question can be answered from the heart, with time devoted to listening. Summer holidays should be about that; space given to the question and time for the answering. We all have the same 24 hours in each day and we all have choices about how to live them out in a good way.
The article is well worth some time and deeper thought:The Disease of Being Busy
I am going to take a break from this daily blogging for the summer. This will be my last daily post for a while. I may write from time to time but in the meantime, thank you for reading and giving feedback and be sure to do something this summer to take care of your soul and heart.
