There is a kind of magic in laying cement. The chemistry for one is pretty interesting. To pour this grey slurry of rock, sand and water made of limestone, shells, chalk. clay, iron ore and shale and have it set and turn rock hard and harder as it cures, is quite amazing. And to see these guys work with simple tools to bring the surface to a smooth polish is also pretty awesome. I pretty much just stood around and watched. Five hours later the whole process was done. It’s a thing of beauty.
We are pretty keen to move on to the next steps in raising our barn but yesterday was a good day. Today I get to start stripping the forms and preparing the perimeter for drainage. As if I know anything about this. Learning as we go.
