So, to be in the Netherlands and hang out with cousins is a sweet thing to me. Last week I spent four days there, staying with my wonderful Tante Nel who is bright and curious in her old age and had she be born in another time might well have been a professor of theology or philosophy. In turn we were able to visit my mom’s youngest sister together, getting lost along the way because we couldn’t decide whether to pay attention to the GPS or our own good sense. Turns out we should have listened to the lady. I had a precious evening with four cousins sitting around a dinner table, sipping good wine and talking together about things that really matter, till late at night.
I know it isn’t always possible to find common ground but what a gift my children have in myriad cousins and also grandparents they were able to know well. A gift to be treasured and nurtured.
