Sinek says it this way, ““… when a leader embraces their responsibility to care for people instead of caring for numbers, then people will follow, solve problems and see to it that that leader’s vision comes to life the right way, a stable way and not the expedient way.” (Leaders Eat Last) and ““Being the leader means you hold the highest rank, either by earning it, good fortune or navigating internal politics. Leading, however, means that others willingly follow you—not because they have to, not because they are paid to, but because they want to.” (Start with Why)
There are a lot of leaders who are under enormous pressure to show the numbers and they get so focused on them that they lose sight of the team of people that could make the numbers happen. You might be able to coerce children and young people into following but most adults will choose to follow freely or not at all. In a school setting it means that once the classroom door closes, it’s just you the teacher. You will be inspired to make great things happen there or you will go through the motions. Create a great team who love where they work and love the people they work with and for, and great things will happen.
