In the middle of all of that Jesus says these impossibly difficult words, “Love your enemies and be good to everyone who hates you.” I wish he hadn’t said that. It is just so difficult to do. How are we supposed to love our enemies? If you have read some of the news articles you know that the new Prime Minister is under intense pressure to continue with Canada’s participation in the bombing in the Middle East. At the outset of the mission it was supposed to cost $500 million dollars. It may sound simplistic and even foolish but what if we poured that amount of money into foreign aid into Syria? What if we filled transport aircraft full of food, medical supplies, school supplies, and all things that would lead to the improvement of life in that country. What if we continued the bombing raids and instead of destruction pouring from the skies we poured out love and goodness?
I read two really good things this weekend well worth the time. One by Anne Lamott on how we might respond to this recent violence and the other in Relevant Magazine about loving our enemies.
