The hauling of water is such a big part of life here. Access to a good well is also a blessing to a family and a community. When I think of home and how much I take for granted that water will come out of the tap when I turn it, hot and cold, that a daily shower is a given and that I can water my garden all night long if I wish. The water supply seems endless.
On Monday we were in several villages where World Renew (CES) and other private donors have provided funds to rehabilitate wells, construct small dams for gravity systems and taps down the main roads of a village for close access. This may seem like a small thing to us, but just imagine what this might mean, particularly to women, many who will have worked for a whole day on their farms, only to come home to further haul water for cooking and cleaning. To be able to turn a tap and full water containers and buckets, transforms the life of a family and community.
The change that this makes is noticeable.
